Agartala, 20 Sept, 2013:The state goverment of Tripura has created another renaming controversary by renaming the historical palace Ujjayanta Palace situated in the heart of the capital Agartala. It is to be renamed as the Tripura State Museum. The opposition party Congress and INPT have already voiced their concern against the renaming issue.

Ujjayanta Palace was build during the reign of King Radha Kishore Manikya in 1901 AD. After the princely state Tripura merge with the Indian government in 1949 the palace become the state property. It was the place for the Tripura legislative Assembly until 2011.

Tripura has long witness the renaming of rivers, village etc. The river Howra was change from the original name Saidra. Earlier the govenrment tried to rename the Agartala Ariport to Rabinda Nath tagore airport, but had to step down from its decision after huge public uproar in the street of Tripura against the decision. The government had recently rename the ASTABAL playground to Vivekananda playground.

The government though argue that the contorversy is unwanted and Ujjanta palace will not change. But the ground reality seems different as no where in the goverment communique or signboard the name Ujjayanta Palace was mentioned.
