| tripuri marriage system

i want to know whether the wearing of bangles(so called shankha churi and red one) and putting sindoor after marriage is really in our(Tripuri) traditional system???

Hi Satong
wearing of bangles must be there within our society, hence the name 'mathia'
regarding the color worn after the marraige, perhaps it is adopted from the bengali culture and even the applying of 'sindur' may not be our way.
I think applying of Sindur is also not purely hindu culture because in the sourthern state the ladies don't apply. So it must be the Bengali hindu culture which we are following.
But I can say goria, ker etc are ours, irrespective of religion.
I really wonder when people refuse to observe Ker or celebrate Goria just because they are Christian.
We have a long way to go...

Yes the tradition of wearing bangles as in our term "MATHIA" is long before in our tripuri culture and keeping sindur also we can observe within some tribes in our community but in some other ways.But by the process of evolution the product or the method of practising such things has changed because we have a very less number of documentary evidences.
If you go through the royal documents or visit the royal photographs in our Ujjayanta palace and any other places where the inscriptions of ancient tripura/tipperah were kept, i am sure you can easily be able to find out the presence of such things.And if we gone through by the process of ancient rituals and worshiping system the use of vermillion powder is broadly available.The "KulDevta" means the deity of tripuris which is "Kharchi Mwtai" and "Baba Garia" always been worshipped by putting red tilak and our ishri means queen also found some of the pictures of royal photographs by keeping vermillion powder or sindur and which symbolises the power and good fortune of king..
Dear Satong,I really admire your queries and the passion for rediscovring our traditions and culture.
But apart from all this conversations another thing which is very important for us so called the young generations is that debates must be for positive gain for our people as a result of which we can apply the ideas for better works......and
It must be very liberal conversations giving respects to every individuals saying,the philosophy of thinking and ideas.....and
Finally must be free from all biasness in terms of religion, social condition and state of mind....
